Pittsburgh Police working to solve 21% spike in homicides

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA)There have been 40 homicides in Pittsburgh so far this year. Some have been cleared, many have not.

At its weekly media briefing, Pittsburgh Police say there's been a 21% spike in homicides this year and continue to work on solving each one of them.


There have also been 75 non-fatal shootings, including a 10 year old, shot while in his home Monday night in Sheraden.

Commander Rich Ford says there was also a 19 year old shot in that incident.

Unsolved homicides span back prior to just the 2021 calendar year, including the shooting death of 27 year old Ebony McCary, shot in Homewood on August 2nd of last year.

Pittsburgh police says they have a homicide clearance rate this year of 32 percent.
