The Pittsburgh Public Schools board takes another look at its mask policy Wednesday night.

The district currently allows athletes and theatre students to ditch the masks when they're playing or performing, but now masks for the rest of the student body is up for discussion.

According to meeting agendas, the board will discuss a mask-optional plan at Wednesday night's meeting, with plans to vote next week.

PPS remains one of the only local districts with a mask mandate in place. The last time the policy was up for discussion, reactions were mixed.

Some members were concerned removal of masks could lead to an increase in cases, forcing students to learn remotely with few resources.

In March, PPS hosted a public hearing regarding its mask policy. At that time, Dr. Martin Gregorio, district physician, said without any major reported problems, going mask-optional was possible.

They were only considering ditching the mask policy for performing arts students, which as it says above, was put through. The mask policy ended for athletes as well.
