A restaurant in Pittsburgh is under a Consumer Alert after an inspection by the Allegheny County Health Department.
Wai Wait Chinese Cuisine on the 4200 block of Murray Avenue had 19 violations recorded by inspectors after a visit on Friday.
Five of those violations reported are “high risk”.
They include a tub of fried chicken on a cook line temped at 74 degrees along with other food measured at an unsafe temperature.
Ground raw pork was at 67F, raw chicken wings at 50F, cubed raw beef at 52F and grilled chicken at 74F. That food was all discarded. All cold-holding food must be at 41 degrees or lower.
Inspectors did say the “staff reluctant to discard of food that had been demonstrated to not be in safe condition.”
Another high-risk violation involved included an inspector observing an employee putting a finger in their mouth and then returning to the cook line without washing their hands.
Two other employees were seen eating on the cook line.
Also, knives were seen, stored in a “soiled, rusty” can in a prep area with food residue on the blades. And, an employee was seen rising a cooking pan and using it to cook without using soap or sanitizer.
Other high-risk violations include “too many house flies to count in the basement” and walk-in cooler, back door in kitchen open with no screen and back door of baseman open with screen doors not fully shut.
