The doors at Carmi Soul Food Restaurant may have closed last year, but for NFL Draft weekend, the owner is back in the kitchen, hoping to turn big crowds into a big opportunity.

Owner Carleen King is reopened for a limited run.

“Anytime you bring more people into the city, there’s the potential for more customers,” said King. “So, you have the potential to make more money. The onus is on you to do the leg work and get them to your door. But, once you do that, then opportunity to develop and prosper is there.”

King says this event gives her a chance to showcase her food once again, even if it’s only temporary.

She says at Carmine’s everything is made fresh to order and “smells like home.”

“Cod, catfish, fried chicken, we have smoked pork ribs, we have smoked leg quarters, macaroni and cheese, greens, green beans,” said King, to make a few.

Carmi Express is located at 1219 Federal Street on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, open Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight.
