PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) The City of Pittsburgh says they're seeing results after prioritizing violence reduction in the area.
Homewood became the focus at the start of the year after data showed it had the most gun violence deaths of any city neighborhood.
Lisa Frank, from Mayor Ed Gainey's office, said they've seen a 10% reduction in violence in Homewood compared to last year.
At a Homewood community meeting Tuesday, Frank also said the city is actively recruiting police officers.
"We're going to keep our feet on the gas with new strategies to help keep people safe," Frank said.
That includes getting rid of a requirement that candidates have 60 college credits before joining the force.
"People can get their education as you go," Frank said. "Some of your work in the academy will count towards that."
