Charles Reichblum, known as Dr. Knowledge, told NewsRadio KDKA's Robert Mangino that he's started a national push to replace "The Star-Spangled Banner" with "God Bless America" as the United States' national Anthem.
"There's so much about 'God Bless America' that I think speaks more for the country than the "Star-Spangled Banner" for many reasons," said the Pittsburgh man. "The 'Star-Spangled Banner' talks about war, 'God Bless America' really talks about peace, it celebrates America - 'from the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam'"
He also explained what he thought was wrong with the "Star-Spangled Banner" saying "First of all the words 'United States' and the words 'America,' surprisingly are never mentioned in the 'Star-Spangled Banner.' There are four verses in the 'Star-Spangled Banner,' we usually only hear the first verse. The other thing is we had no national anthem for many, many years - most of the years of the country we had no national anthem, " explained Reichblum. "The 'Star-Spangled Banner' was written in the war of 1812 - it was written in the year 1814 - and was not made the national anthem until 1931. That was over 100 years after it was written."
Reichblum is asking Americans to write their members of Congress as well as President Joe Biden to ask them to make the change.
