Warmer weather and budding flowers and trees are a welcome sight around Pittsburgh this time of year.
But with those signs of spring come unwanted potholes.
"The snow gets into cracks in the road freezes, expands and then as it expands it cracks the pavement you have a big car that roll over it, boom, there's your pothole," Triple A's Jim Garrity tells KDKA Radio.
Garrity says American pay $3 million in pothole damage a year, but you can do things differently behind the wheel to avoid your car becoming the next victim.
"You can't be distracted, it's a lot easier to know how to handle a pothole when you are 100 yards away from it as opposed to two seconds to driving over top of it," says Garrity.
Properly inflated tires can also serve as a cushion against potholes. Several gas stations, including GetGo locations offer free air.
