President Donald Trump returns to the Pittsburgh area Friday to tout what he describes as a planned partnership between US Steel and Japan's Nippon Steel.
At one point, the president said he was opposed to the deal but that changed after negotiations with the White House.
On the Big K Morning Show, West Mifflin Mayor Chris Kelly said all parties are happy and that “it’s a great relief” for the community and steel-worker families.
“Nippon, U.S. Steel, everybody’s optimistic,” said Kelly. “We just think it’s a great day that the president is coming to West Mifflin today. Hopefully the announcement and the completion of this deal will be very soon.”
Kelly adds he even “shed a few tears” after learning of the announcement.
President Trump is scheduled to speak at the Irvin Works in West Mifflin at 5 p.m.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says that Trump will be talking about the “historic deal and discuss American jobs and American steel.”
Trump will be joined by U.S. Steel’s CEO and Nippon Steel’s vice chairman.
Several local mayors, including Kelly, will be in attendance as well.
The president is expected to arrive at the Allegheny County Airport at 4:35 p.m.
