Plumbers are going to be very busy over the next 10 days.

As temperatures dip 20 to 40 degrees below normal, it could cause issues with your pipes.

On the Big K Morning Show, Ken Baker from Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing Heating and Cooling says a lot of pipes end up bursting when it gets this cold.

“We got a lot of older houses that are real drafty and the wind gets in there, it doesn’t take much, just a little bit of air moving across that pipe and it will freeze it once it gets below 10 (degrees) or so,” said Baker.

He recommends letting the water run about the thickness of a pencil to prevent your pipes from freezing.

Also, you can open the kitchen cabinet to allow more heat to flow through. You can even use a little space heater.

If you do have frozen pipes, open the faucets and turn the heat up a little bit.

Baker says to never use a blow torch or flame to try to open your pipes.

You can always call a plumber if your pies remain frozen.
