There's a public hearing Monday night about the Pittsburgh Public Schools budget for the next academic year.
The district’s preliminary 2026 budget comes in at more than $730 million dollars, just over a two-percent decrease from this year.
It includes a $12 million operating deficit, smaller than last year’s, and proposes a four-percent millage increase while still falling short of the board’s required fund balance.
The budget had been tied to the Future-Ready Facilities initiative, but the school board voted 6-3 against that plan, citing concerns over costs and long-term sustainability.
A public hearing is set for 5:30 p.m., with a final board vote scheduled for December 17.
