If you're dog owner, and you're on social media, you may have heard about a raw dog food diet that seems to be a trend on TikTok, a diet that includes chicken head and cow hearts.
Dr. Mike Hutchinson of Animal General in Cranberry Township talked about the trend on “The Big K Morning Show” Thursday.
“Is it good for the dog? Is it nutritionally complete? You get it is,” said Hutchinson.
But he warns there are some very serious things to consider, and precautions need to be taken.
“I like them, I just want to make sure they’re nutritionally complete and a dog that’s eating raw food is going to excrete salmonella and E. coli into the house hold, they live in our houses, they’re on our furniture, we have to be careful,” added Hutchinson.
He says every university study shows these diets can seriously impact the health of children and older adults who live in the household.
