UPDATE 1:49 p.m. 4/5/22 - The re-opening of the Saw Mill Run Blvd bridge is set to re-open by the end of May, according to a Port Authority spokesperson.

As long as there are no unforeseen issues, repairs are going as planned.

Crews installed temporary supports, preparing the bridge for new anchor bolts, rail joints and bearings that will be installed next week.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m. 2/16/22 - The Port Authority of Allegheny announced Wednesday that the Saw Mill Run Blvd bridge will remain closed for up to three months for repairs.

According to contractors, the repairs will cost more than $2 million to lift the 600,000 pound bridge back into position.

Crews are going to replace the bearings, anchor bolts and portions of the concrete deck and slab that were removed to stabilize and gain access to the bridge.

Port Authority engineers concluded as to why the Saw Mill Run Blvd Bridge shifted several inches last week, when an employee noticed an abnormally large gap at a joint on the deck of the bridge.

Water that penetrated a portion of the concrete support structure expanded when temperatures plummeted to below freezing on February 4, causing the shift.

While the bridge is stable, according to the Port Authority, it will remain closed for several weeks. A more concrete timeline when it would reopen will be released next week.

In the meantime, the Red Line cars are now traveling on the blue line. The shuttle is running between Overbrook Junction and Potomac Station. A bus shuttle is traversing Potomac Station and Station Square.

Fares are not being collected and both are running every 20-to-30 minutes.

Motorists traveling under the bridge will not be impacted.
