In the state of aging, disability, and family caregiving report from the University of Pittsburgh, data showed Allegheny County has the second highest concentration of older adults in the US behind Palm Beach, Florida.

Researcher Chris Briem said older workers have become the fastest growing segment of the workforce in Allegheny County,

“Those folks have been increasing and making up for what has been a decline in what we call prime working age workers, 35 to 54, and a relatively flat number of workers below that.”

The number of workers 65 and up increased more than 54% between 2011 and 2021.
