The U.S. is currently monitoring Russia's border presence with Ukraine.
The Biden administration has provided millions of dollars in aid to Ukraine, and could possibly send thousands of troops to help.
Retired Army Colonel and CBS Military Consultant and Jeff McCausland was a guest on the NewsRadio KDKA morning show.
McClausland says says the whole conflict started in 2004 when Putin claimed the end of the Soviet Union was the most catastrophic event of the 20th century, and since then has tried to reassert Russian influence politically.
"We have a few thousand troops right now but apparently over the weekend, the president announced he's reviewing options to increase that number by 5 to 10 thousand in an effort to show support for those NATO countries, and hopefully deter Mr. Putin from making advances in the Ukraine," he said
McClausland also says the U.S. Military is in good shape and is experienced, but tired.
