The Roberto Clemente Bridge is closing for rehabilitation work in less than two weeks.

A $34 million facelift will commence on the bridge on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and is expected to re-open in December of 2023.
“The Clemente Bridge is an iconic symbol of Pittsburgh, and one that visitors and residents alike are familiar, but it too needs some love,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.
Detours for outbound traffic include the Fort Duquesne Blvd, the Andy Warhol Bridge, Sandusky St, East Lacock St and Federal St.
For inbound traffic, travelers will use East General Robinson St, Sandusky St, the Andy Warhol Bridge and Ft. Duquesne Blvd.
Allegheny County does have a plan for the thousands of locks that are on the Clemente Bridge.
They will be removed and donated to the Industrial Arts of Workshop of Hazelwood.
“I am excited for the opportunity to receive the locks, which are individual expressions from so many people who placed their thoughts and wishes in public,” said Tim Kaulen, executive director of the Industrial Arts Workshop.
The Three Rivers Trail will remain open near the bridge, on the North Shore and Downtown for the duration of the project.
