After over 30 years in the industry and 25 at KDKA-TV, reporter Ross Guidotti is hanging up his microphone.
Loved for his direct approach and brutal honesty, Guidotti tells KDKA Radio’s Larry Richert his last day is Friday because he doesn’t feel like he has it anymore.
“I felt I couldn’t do the job anymore,” said Guidotti admitting he’s tired.
He says after a conversation with his wife he decided he wants to do something new.
Guidotti turns 60 on Saturday and says the biggest motivating factor for him is getting to spend more time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
Guidotti also talked about getting emotional while being recognized by Allegheny County Council recently. He says he looked at his mother and wondered how he had gotten to this place in his life.
“My family actually came to Pittsburgh, the Polish side came right at the end of the 1800s, my Italian side right at the beginning of the 1900s and we have been Allegheny County residents, except a few times where I had to work or something, my entire life,” said Guidotti.
So, at only 60-years-old, what’s next for Ross Guidotti? “I have no earthly idea, I really don’t.”
He adds the point of retiring is to step away but says he will be back doing something, someday, you probably just won’t see him on TV.
“I could spend the rest of my days on this planet fixing snowblowers and lawnmowers and be just as happy doing that,” said Guidotti.
