With more winter weather in the forecast, how are local stores doing with supplies? If you're looking to stock up on salt before the next big snow, it's been flying off the shelves.
Tuesday was a big day for salt sales at Evey True Value in Bethel Park. "We went through about 30 pallets, so that's over 3,000 bags of salt in one day," said owner Andy Amrhein.
Amrhein says sales continue to be very brisk and they've been getting almost one call every minute from someone looking for salt. He says it's hard to say what supplies will be like in the future with more than a month of winter left.
While salt supplies are still good at the moment, Amrhein says the pandemic has caused some irregularities with other winter items. "Gloves, hats, shovels, washer fluid, anti-freeze - products like that. They are spotty shortages depending on where you are and where the product is being shipped from."
Local PennDOT offices, Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh all say they are still well-stocked on salt and they're set for more winter weather.
The next bout of snowy weather is expected to hit the region Wednesday afternoon and continue on and off through the weekend.
