39 years ago, an 8-year-old girl disappeared in Butler County.
8-year-old 3rd grader Cherrie Mahan was on her way home from the former Winfield Elementary School, her mom, Janice McKinney, was making her way to the bottom of the driveway to greet her daughter.
Cherrie, got off the bus with three other students about 100 yards down the road.
She hasn't been seen or heard from again.
Witnesses reported seeing a blue or a green van behind the bus as well as a blue sedan.

Those vehicles and the drivers were never identified.
State Police have received thousands of tips over the years and they continue to trickle in.
Even though Cherrie has been legally declared dead, her mom and the state police will continue to do what they do.
For Janice McKinney, that means walking to the bottom of her driveway every February 22 until there's closure or she's gone.
