If you’re looking to save some cash at the pump, Sheetz is offering a deal for the rest of August.
The convenience chain announced Thursday that its Unleaded 88 grade fuel will be available for $2.99 a gallon until 11:59 p.m. on August 31.
88 fuel was approved by the EPA in 2001 for newer cars, trucks and SUVs. You should check to make sure your car takes 88 gas.
88 fuel is 85 percent gasoline and 15 percent ethanol. 87 grade is 90 percent gasoline, 10 percent ethanol.
The additional ethanol makes 88 cheaper and burns cleaner than 87.
There are reports online that 88 can damage your gas tank, but it has been deemed safe, especially for newer vehicles.
Because of the increase in ethanol, 88 fuel can damage an engine if it sits for too long.
That’s why the grade isn’t suggested for use in things like gas tanks and other engines that are used seasonally.
