Snow removal. It's a touchy subject in Pittsburgh, especially after a big storm.
Once again, many of the city's side streets were unplowed days after 8 to 9 inches of snowfall.
Public Works plows could only keep up with continuing snowfall on major roads.
Same old story.
But with a new mayor, there's hope for improvement.
Ed Gainey stepped into the spotlight before the storm arrived. He and two key aides rode alongside plow drivers during the first few hours.
He listened to Public Works employees as he visited maintenance sheds.
And Mayor Gainey is promising to make snow removal and the Public Works budget a priority.
Residents living in neighborhoods with unplowed streets are right to be upset.
But the new mayor took office only weeks before the storm.
We say Mr. Gainey did the best job possible with the tools he inherited.
We're calling for patience.
