There was “Some confusion” at Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday after changes were made with security.
Anyone using TSA PreCheck now has to use the main security entrance and can no longer get past security at the alternate checkpoint.
All passengers NOT using TSA PreCheck can continue to use the main or alternate checkpoints.
Spokesperson for TSA, Lisa Farbstein tells KDKA Radio the main checkpoint is “now focused on TSA PreCheck travelers in the early morning hours.”
She adds that “Some confusion is always expected when there is a change.”
Some travelers at Pittsburgh International claimed there was a lack of signage with the change.
But, Farbstein says while there was a heavy volume of travelers on Monday morning, “wait times were at about 20 minutes long at the alternative checkpoint and less than 15 minutes at the main checkpoint. The lines look long, but that’s more an issue of optics than the actual time it takes to get through the line.”
So, to review, those without TSA PreCheck can continue to use the main and alternate checkpoints, Those with PreCheck can only use the main checkpoint.
This comes with Real ID compliance beginning on Wednesday all across the country.
Another change: "the passenger screening checkpoints at the airport will be closed from 10:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m., daily. Passengers will not be able to access the concourse or gate area of the airport during those hours."
You will now need a Real ID license to travel, even domestically. If you have a valid passport, that is a valid ID and can be used if you don’t have a Real ID yet.
