Homestead Police have charged a Pittsburgh woman with kidnapping after they say she took a child from a Steel Valley school without permission.
Steel Valley School District officials released the 8-year-old student to a woman identified as 25-year-old Jamya Jones-Houston, after she allegedly pretended to be the child’s mother.
Police say Jones-Houston called Barrett Elementary School and told them that she had permission to sign the child out of the building.
According to a criminal complaint filed against her, the district allowed Jones-Houston to take the child.
The child was unharmed.
