Drivers stuck in gridlock on the Turnpike can now find out by text why traffic is stopped.
The messages provide specific information about incidents, expected clearance times and roadway updates.
When a driver is safely stopped, they can text INFO to 47676 to access the free service.
Users will be prompted to verify backlog location information using GPS. Once they are confirmed, they’ll receive every 15-20 minutes.
“We take immense pride in maintaining safe, clear roadways on the PA Turnpike,” said PA Turnpike COO Craig Shuey. “Yet, we know incidents happen. While 47676 can’t lift drivers out of a backlog, it provides them timely reassurance that incidents are being handled, and an estimate on when travel will resume.”
