As of 10:15 a.m., about 24,000 Duquesne Light customers remain without service after heavy storms moved through on Monday afternoon.

The hardest hit areas include: Bellevue, Hampton, Indiana, Ross and Shaler.

O’Hara Township says that Duquesne Light has informed them that some home could be without power for two days.

A cooling center has opened at the Pleasant Valley VFC for those dealing with the heat.

West Penn Power has 3,400 outages in Allegheny County, 1,100 in Beaver, 1,400 in Butler and 1,000 in Westmoreland county.

The severe weather delivered areas of torrential rain and high winds and even some hail at the airport.

AccuWeather's Heather Zehr says the “upper level energy” in the upper atmosphere helped trigger the damaging storms.

The storms also produced a big temperature drop with some areas going from 95 to 65 degrees in just minutes.

There is an investigation in northern Allegheny, southern Butler Counties to see if a microburst hit that area.

As for the rest of the week, the heat will continue and while there is a chance for severe weather, Zehr says it’s less of a concern on Tuesday.

The hottest days of the week will be Thursday, Friday and into Saturday.
