Tony Moreno, a candidate for Pittsburgh mayor in the Democratic Primary Election, is considering running as a Republican in November's general election.
According to unofficial results from Allegheny County, Moreno came in third in last week's Democratic primary with 7,390 votes behind winner Ed Gainey (25,784 votes) and Bill Peduto (22,029 votes).
The write-in votes in the Republican Primary are giving Moreno a second chance, if he chooses to take it.
Moreno received 1,379 Republican write-in votes, which is well over the 250 vote threshold needed to run.
He told News Radio KDKA's Marty Griffin, he's considering running against Gainey in November, but hasn't made his decision yet.
"I'm going to sit down and talk to the team and make sure we're all straight, and I'll come out with an announcement after we've looked at everything," he said.
Moreno believes he will retain voters if he does choose to run as a Republican.
"This is not a political race at this moment in time," he said. "This is a people race. People are just horrified at the politics they're looking at."
Mayor Bill Peduto received 285 write-in votes in the Republican primary, but has maintained he will not run.
