Man rescued after falling from elevator shaft in Troy Hill

Emergency crews rescued a man that fell down an elevator shaft in Troy Hills Thursday afternoon.

Pittsburgh Public Safety says police, fire and EMS responded to the 900 block of River Avenue for reports of a man that fell about 8 to 12 feet inside and abandoned building without light or ventilation.

Medics were lowered into the shaft to rescue the man with crews also monitoring the air quality of the space due to the poor ventilation.

Public Safety says the man was alert but was pinned down for an unknown amount of time.

Medics were able to rescue to the man who was taken to a local hospital with multiple leg fractures.

The Pittsburgh Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections has been called to inspect the building.
