
Organizations in Allegheny and Fayette counties are growing their clean energy fleets with grant money from the state.
The two counties are getting a cut of $2.1 million from the state DEP for clean fuel transportation projects. Deputy secretary Ramez Ziadeh says the equipment bought will make an impact.
“Collectively, our new funded projects in this round are anticipated to reduce gasoline use by 478,000 gallons per year over their lifetimes.”
Allegheny County will receive $45,000 to buy six electric vehicles for county police, park rangers and facilities management.
Brittany Prischak, the county's sustainability manager, says this will bring their total to 14 electric vehicles.
“These investments have improved our operations, health, bottom line and our county. This includes a conversion of some of our vehicle fleet to electric to reduce tailpipe emissions, air pollution and carbon footprint,” she said.
PWSA will receive $7500 for an electric car. In the Chestnut Valley Landfill will receive funding for eight Compressed natural gas trucks.
