UPMC doctor discusses one simple thing everyone can do to lessen spread of COVID-19

More COVID-19 cases come with more restrictions to try to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. One area doctor says there's a simple thing everyone can do to help.

Fears of running out of ICU beds, and a projection of 22,000 daily cases statewide by spring has caused alarm among state leaders that Coronavirus pandemic is spiking out of control.


Dr. Kevin Wong, a family medicine physician with UPMC, says there's one measure that anyone can take that no one should lose sight of.

"Handwashing techniques have worked for centuries here, no matter how you cut it," says Wong, "and really, we need to just wash and be using good hygiene."

Wong tells KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin it's important to respect those at most at risk and practice good hygiene to slow the spread of the virus.

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania topped 321,000 COVID-19 cases. Additional mitigation restrictions from the state and from Allegheny County were implemented.

Among the new state restrictions is the suspension of alcohol sales on the evening before Thanksgiving as well as a statewide stay-at-home advisory.
