Infections spread rapidly over the last month - reaching some people who had been planning to get the booster, but didn't quite around to it.

So, how long should they wait?

UPMC's Dr. Graham Snyder says as long as you're no longer sick and have cleared it with your doctor, you're good to go.

“You’ve learned with Omicron that prior infection doesn’t protect you as well against Omicron and the vaccine is important. So, even though people can choose to wait up to 90 days because their natural immune system will provide some protection, it doesn’t mean you have to,” said Dr. Snyder.

As hospitals continue to deal with surging demand, Pennsylvania started deploying strike teams to help out.
