A new mask policy is in effect today at UPMC facilities.
Masks are no longer required with exceptions in areas where patients are "vulnerable to infection."
“Beginning Monday, May 1, universal masking is no longer required at most UPMC facilities and locations but will be required in specific patient care areas where patients are particularly vulnerable to infection,” a statement from the health system said.
Masks can still be worn voluntarily by anyone.
Reports say the national COVID-19 emergency declaration will end next week.
Allegheny Health Network and Heritage Valley have ended their mandatory masking mandates as well.
