Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to be in Pittsburgh Friday. She is expected to discuss lead remediation as part of the Biden Administration's infrastructure plan.

According to a release from the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, Harris will be joined by U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge.

Late last year, Harris announced a plan to accelerate led line replacement over the next decade.

A number of lead line replacement initiatives are already underway in Pittsburgh. PWSA says it has replaced 9,100 public lead service lines, with hundreds more planned for this year.

A program funded by $17.5 million in American Rescue Plan dollars replaces all lead lines in neighborhoods across the PWSA service area.

There are also a number of state and local initiatives planned for 2022, including $4.7 million toward replacing lead service lines at all daycares and sites with elevated lead water samples.

Harris is scheduled to speak around 2 p.m. at the Community Empowerment Association in Homewood.
