According to an online source, "today, there are 107 HBCUs with more than 228,000 students enrolled. Fifty-six institutions are under private control, and 51 are public colleges and universities." Pittsburgh, known as a city that's not very livable for African Americans, doesn't welcome the idea of HBCUs for young black students. Until now!

Vince Elliott is the Founder and President of the Western PA HBCU Alumni program that helps young interested students apply, enroll and attend HBCU schools across the country.

They adopt the ideals of the HBCUs and match the students with those ideals so that they're not somewhere they feel they don't belong. He'll talk more about that and even offer advice to me as I'm still dreaming of graduating from an HBCU.
