Wegmans announcement of its first Pittsburgh area store has the attention of shoppers in the Cranberry area and we’re learning more about when the popular grocer will officially open.
Cranberry Township manager Dan Santoro tells KDKA Radio, Wegmans is eager to get started.
“They obviously have an approval process to get through here, through the Cranberry Township planning commission and board of supervisors so we have a process to get through but they’ve indicated they’re looking to move relatively quickly,” said Santoro.
The store is expected to open in about two years. The land should be ready in a year and then another year of construction on the building.
Dan Aken, Vice President of Real Estate and Store Planning for Wegmans says southern Butler County is a good market for the grocer and that the company looks to put a first store where business is growing.
“We really like the presence in that Cranberry Township with other retail and it already has a regional draw with the adjacency to the mall,” said Aken.
Wegmans Regional Manager Gary Fechter says the store will get involved in the community.
“One of the things that’s so meaningful to us is being a great community steward and finding out what the role is that we can play,” said Fechter.
In addition to grocery, Wegman stores have a large selection of prepared foods, beer, wine and more.
