A local school district could be parting ways with their leader.

The West Jefferson Hills School District voted 8-to-1 not to renew superintendent Dr. Michael Ghilani's contract.

Dr. Ghilani said the school board told him in December that his contract would not be renewed, but he said he wasn't given a reason why.

Before Tuesday night's meeting, he says the board told him they want to continue talks. Dr. Ghilani says he was hired in 2017, and he's had four years of good evaluations.

"This did blindside me. There has been no discussion up to this point. I hope that can be resolved moving forward. I wanted to set that record straight, said Dr. Ghilani.

Dr. Ghilani says he believes that public pressure, community support and emails to the school board prompted last night's vote.
