PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) – Members of the county prison board in Westmoreland County approved a plan to pay $25 in commissary credit to prison inmates who receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the TribLive reports.
"We're still working out the final details, but this will be for all inmates," county Commissioner Gina Cerilli Thrasher said.
The vaccine will be offered to existing inmates and new prisoners when brought into the facility and inmates will received the full $25 credit, unlike other transactions that are docked 50% to pay for room, board, and court costs.
The commissary sells hygiene, clothing, food, telephone calling cards, and other items.
Guards and other staff have been eligible for the vaccine for a few months.
