What's Good In Your Hood: Cocoapreneur

Khamil Scantling took a page from a woman who set the standard in her community to showcase black owned businesses.

Years ago, there was the Black Business Directory that provided the community with various businesses in the neighborhoods like bakeries, shoe shops, grocery stores, and more.

That directory stopped and for a while, the community was lost.

For entrepreneurs, it was a challenge to market and promote your business because marketing and advertising budgets weren't something you thought about; plus it was expensive to some who couldn't afford it.

Khamil Scantling saw an opening and started the Cocoapreneur Business Directory.

Similar to the Black Business Directory, Cocoapreneur is a digital resource directory that lists local businesses that are black owned to help continue the legacy of neighborhoods supporting one another and helping them grow.

Khamil talks about the purpose of this adventure and new things in store to help create new businesses and educate aspiring entrepreneurs here in the city of Pittsburgh.

It's one thing to be a business owner but it's something else when you're a black business owner.

And as a black business owner, I too have witnessed the challenges of owning and maintaining a successful business.
