The family of a man who died at the Allegheny County Jail last year believes he didn't receive adequate care from jail staff.
57-year-old Anthony Talotta, who had autism and developmental disabilities, had been brought to the jail after a fight with a staff member at the group home where he lived.
Eleven days later, he was found unresponsive in his cell.
He was taken to the hospital and died the next day.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled Talotta died of natural causes, but his family believes he died from a treatable infection from a foot wound.
In a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday, Talotta's family alleges doctors and medical staff at the jail provided substandard care.
He was taken to the hospital twice for his injuries, but the lawsuit claims the jail didn't provide antibiotics that were prescribed to Talotta, they confiscated any medical equipment to help with his injuries and they did not provide any wound care.
An Allegheny County spokesperson says it does not comment on lawsuits.
