Is the cost of youth sports keeping some kids from getting into the game?
Pittsburgh-area Congressman Chris Deluzio held a hearing Tuesday at the Greentree Sports Plex looking at the costs involved in things like little league and hockey and other sports.
Deluzio says sponsors are becoming hard to find.
“It costs thirty to sixty dollars, or so for a kid to register, those community, recreational leagues are getting squeezed . . . because there are now these other . . . travel and different competitions where the price tag is not thirty or sixty bucks, it’s into the thousands for kids to participate, it’s a problem,” said Deluzio.
Deluzio co-chairs the Monopoly Busters Caucus on Capitol Hill.
He says consolidated corporate power is causing every day costs like groceries to skyrocket.
Deluzio says the testimony will help guide potential policy efforts focused on keeping youth sports accessible and affordable for all families.
