Police in Texas have arrested a 12-year-old boy who is accused of fatally shooting an employee at a Sonic Drive-In after an argument broke out.

The Keene Police Department shared that the Sonic worker, 32-year-old Matthew Davis, had confronted 20-year-old Angel Gomez because he was “being disorderly in the parking lot.”

“The argument soon became physical. During the altercation, a juvenile … a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle, retrieved a firearm and fired multiple shots, striking the victim,” the department said in its statement.

The weapon used in the shooting was an “AR-style 22 rifle,” Police Chief James Kidd told CNN. The chief said that at least six shots were fired at Davis, some of which fatally struck him.

The incident happened at around 9:40 p.m. When officers arrived, they attempted life-saving measures on Davis before airlifting him to a hospital, where he was inevitably pronounced dead.

Police shared that Gomez and the 12-year-old had fled the scene before they arrived. However, Gomez returned to the parking lot and was taken into custody.

The department shared that officers later found and arrested the juvenile who was with several firearms in their possession.

In connection to the shooting, both Gomez and the juvenile have been charged with murder, police shared.

The investigation remains ongoing at this point.
