SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Did you know that a bull moose will shed its antlers after mating season?
“They regrow them again in the spring,” according to the National Wildlife Federation.

This month, a family in Alaska caught rare footage of a moose shedding its antlers on their Ring doorbell camera. At first, the animal is very still. Then he did a shimmy – almost like a dog drying off from a rainy walk – and the antlers fell on the snowy ground.
After, the moose quickly ran away.
“This was cool to get on video,” said Tyra Bogert in a Facebook caption. Another video shows her husband, Chance Bogert, bringing the antlers up to their home.
According to TODAY, Tyra Bogert received a notification from Ring on Dec. 15. She was stunned when she watched footage and contacted her husband as soon as he got out of work.
“I’m like, ‘Dude, you’ve got to watch it for yourself! You’ll be so surprised. I don’t want to ruin it,’” she told the outlet.
Bogert’s brother is the one who told her to post the video on Facebook, where it had more than 4,000 reactions as of Christmas Eve. She also posted the video on TikTok.
“He’s like, ‘I don’t think there’s any video of a moose shedding his antlers and the fact that you had both of them drop at the same time... I don't think that's ever been recorded,’” Bogert tells TODAY.com.
In 2016, National Geographic also posted a video of a moose losing an antler, but just from one side. Voices heard on that video express surprise that the antler fell off.
Bogert said people have also told her they did not know that moose lose their antlers after each mating each season.
“They’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, I didn’t even know moose did this in the first place and what do you mean? They can just shake their head and the antlers fall off? They don't have to be like fighting or scratching a tree?’’ she says. “It’s pretty crazy how many people are just uneducated on moose.”
Bogert said that she comes from a family of hunters. Her husband’s brother is going to help them mount their antlers on a 50-inch rack.
