Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey released a statement Friday morning following the announcement that President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump both tested positive for COVID-19.
The Democratic legislator said, "COVID-19 is a serious illness that has impacted millions of American families. I wish President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump a speedy recovery following their positive test. I will keep them in my prayers."
The president first announced the diagnosis in the early morning hours of Friday morning when he tweeted "Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!"
Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence both tested negative for the virus.
In May, Casey announced that he most likely had COVID-19 at some point after test results showed that he had COVID-19 antibodies.
At the time, Casey said "The results of this test revealed substantial levels of COVID-19 antibody in my blood, significantly more than the amount required to qualify me as a plasma donor. In an effort to help others fighting this virus, I will be making my first donation today in Taylor, Pennsylvania. I encourage others who have recovered from COVID-19 to consult with their own physician to see if they may also be eligible to donate.”
He had experienced low-grade fever and flu-like symptoms over a number of days in the spring.
