President Donald Trump is scheduled to read a Bible passage from the Oval Office on Tuesday as part of the weeklong “America Reads the Bible” event underway in Washington, D.C.
Trump will deliver his prerecorded segment of 2 Chronicles 7:11–22 during the 6 p.m. Eastern Time hour on April 21. The passage, which includes the frequently cited verse 14 calling for national humility, prayer and repentance, was deliberately reserved for the president, organizers said.
The initiative runs April 18 through April 25 at the Museum of the Bible on the National Mall. Nearly 500 participants from faith communities, government, business and entertainment are taking turns reading the entire Bible aloud from Genesis to Revelation in the KJVER translation. Daily public readings run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the museum’s World Stage Theater and are being livestreamed for free.
The event celebrates 250 years of the Bible in America and coincides with the nation’s approaching 250th anniversary of independence. It opened with a red-carpet celebration on April 18 at Capital Turnaround and continues through Saturday. Organizers describe it as one of the largest public Bible readings in U.S. history, aimed at highlighting Scripture’s historical role in the country and encouraging renewed national engagement with faith. White House officials have praised the gathering as an opportunity to honor biblical foundations and renew unity.
Trump joins other administration figures and public leaders on the schedule. His contribution comes as a video message rather than a live appearance.
