A group of Democratic state representatives announced a package of bills that would protect access to abortion in the state.
The four bills would add protections for abortion seekers and providers, as well as expand the number of providers and remove barriers to the procedure.
"We are creating a sanctuary state in Pennsylvania that says you are allowed to come to Pennsylvania to seek abortion care because it is safe and legal here and your state has no jurisdiction here."
As some anti-abortion states consider consequences for residents who seek an abortion in other states, Allegheny County state rep Emily Kinkead said, these bills would protect those who come to Pennsylvania.
Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June the number of people from out of state seeking abortions in Pennsylvania have increased by 100%.
"We will do everything we can to protect those rights and today's package of bills, focused on expanding and solidifying reproductive rights in Pennsylvania is just the first part of that" Says Kinkead
The bills are unlikely to pass the Republican-led legislature.
