Fetterman willing to give Trump's U.S. takeover of Gaza idea consideration

One expert calls the proposed takeover 'madness'

Senator John Fetterman is willing to give more consideration to President Trump's statement that the US would take over the Gaza Strip, an idea some adversaries and allies reject, with one calling it “madness.”

Fetterman told the New York Times that the thought this idea was "provocative" and he is open to supporting it because nothing else has worked.

He said Palestinians have “refused or have been unwilling to deliver a government that provided security and economic development for themselves."

He said that after he was also the only Democrat in the Senate to vote in favor of confirming Pam Bondi to become the next Attorney General.

That, he did, not because she was his ideal choice, but because he felt she's qualified.

Macalester (St. Paul) Professor of Political Science and International Andrew Latham told KDKA Radio sister station WCCO that the idea from Trump is absurd.

"We now face a two-state solution which has to be worked out," says Latham.
"That's a political issue. Simply aspiring to turn Gaza into the Riviera of the Middle East? I can think of a number of words that I would like to use, but I'll use the most polite one I could think of. It's silly."

Latham says this is an extremely complicated refugee situation Palestinians face and throwing ideas like this doesn't help fix a humanitarian crisis.

"To use American prosperity and power to facilitate this, we need to figure out a way to rehouse those two million people," Latham explains. "But the idea that it's going to be a Mar-A-Lago on the Mediterranean
