The governor recalled Wednesday his nomination of Dr. Debra Bogen as state health secretary.
Josh Shapiro's letter to the Senate gave no reason for the decision.
The Post-Gazette reports the letter came hours after Dr. Bogen appeared before a Senate committee concerning her nomination.
The governor's spokesperson said the former Allegheny County Health Department chief “is an immensely qualified public health expert” and said the Shapiro administration "will have more to announce in the coming days.”
Bogen ran the Allegheny County Health Department through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the pandemic, public health has become a more politically charged area.
