Over the weekend, United States Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick were supposed to appear together in the Strip District for a ticketed event.
The two senators from opposing parties and their wives were supposed to discuss the power of mentorship.
That didn't happen. Why?
“For a whole series of reasons, including getting the right location and honestly, some worries about the security of our folks that would join us there because of possible protestors, we decided to postpone it,” McCormick told The Big K Morning Show.
That's Senator McCormick telling the Big K Morning Show that the event will be re-scheduled. People who bought tickets will be given a full refund.
McCormick, a Republican, says the reason he and Senator Fetterman, a Democrat have a great working relationship is due to one word, “trust.”
“He trusts that I’m not going to try to screw him or stick it to him and that we’re going to try to find ways to work together,” said McCormick. “I certainly trust him and that’s a good start for any relationship.”
But, can their partnership help break down the political barriers across the whole country? Political analyst Lenny McCallister tells the Big K Morning Show it's going to be a challenge.
“There are so many people that have invested time, talent and treasure in the tribalism of America,” said McCallister. “So, the last thing they want are people that can actually break that whole barrier down.”
He says only time will tell if the two Senators will be successful in sewing harmony between the two parties.
