Pennsylvania offers CDL test waivers to military members

PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Department of Military Affairs announced a change to CDL requirements for veterans and current military personnel.

According to the state, Act 131 of 2020 waives the knowledge test for those who operated commercial vehicles while on duty.


"We are pleased to announce this important change and hope that it helps military members in their transition to civilian life find good-paying, sustainable employment to begin their new lives," said PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian.

Not part of the new law are waivers for doubles, triples and school buses.

Those wishing to take advantage of the test waiver will need to complete and an "Application for Military CDL Test Waiver" form.
