HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar reported on Friday afternoon that the vast majority of Pennsylvania’s mail-in ballots have been counted.
Boockvar also provided an update that the tally of provisional votes has started.
“Pennsylvania counties have been incredibly hard at work canvassing all the ballots to provide accurate results as quickly as possible following best practices and responsibilities pursuant to state and federal law,” Secretary Boockvar said.
“We are very thankful to all the election officials working extremely long hours to make our democracy work and ensure that every qualified voter’s vote is counted safely and securely.”
At this step in the process, each provisional vote must be adjudicated and assessed before they can be potentially counted.
The process must be completed within seven days of the election the ballots were cast for.
To authenticate the provisional ballots, county boards will verify the voter’s registration and precinct assignment.
The ballots will also be checked to make sure that voters did not try to double-dip and cast a regular mail-in vote, as well.
