As we head into the summer months, law enforcement will ramp up their efforts to keep roadways safe.

Along with AAA, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the West Virginia State Police as well as local police departments will be implementing Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort).

This means motorists will see an increased effort by police to reduce speeding, distracted driving, aggressive driving and impaired driving.

Enforcement details and DUI checkpoints will increase throughout the summer.

“As more people return to travel this summer, we are spreading the word that everyone needs to take proactive steps to keep everyone safe,” said JJ Miller, AAA East Central safety advisor. “We are pleased to announce Operation C.A.R.E. this year to remind everyone of the importance of making smart decisions behind the wheel.”

AAA expects over 37 million Americans to travel over the Memorial Day weekend, with more than 90% of those travelers hitting the road.
