That’s according to new data from State Farm Insurance.

Research shows PA had the most animal collision claims in the nation between July 2021 and June 2022 with 155,093 claims.

That’s a likelihood of 1 out of 58 chance of hitting an animal. Deer were by far the most commonly hit animals over that time.

Most crashes happen between October and December, when it gets darker earlier and deer are more active, especially during hunting season.

Triple-A’s Jim Garrity tells KDKA Radio, it’s important to keep that in mind when you are driving.

“Those yellow road markings with the deer they’re not there for show, they’re there as a warning to you and when you see those, you want to be extra attentive,” aid Garrity.
“Definitely driving slowly because there’s a big difference if you’re going 25 miles per hour as apposed to 35 miles per hour.”

Other tips include reducing distractions (put away your cell phone), use your brakes when you need to, honk your horn and tap your brakes to warn other driver and use high beams to get an animals attention so they get off the road.

Deer collisions can cost thousands of dollars in damage.
